The Cabinet refused receiving Habi’s demands against Cement Companies

A lawyer from the legal unit of Habi Center for Environmental Rights went today to the Cabinet, Ministry of Environment and Environmental Affairs Agency to submit Habi’s demands representing in calling for publicizing environmental impact assessment studies and hearing sessions regarding amendments done by cement companies to use coal as alternative fuel of natural gas, especially both Lafarge Cement and Suez Cement Group,The previously mentioned companies refused before to respond to the demands sent from Habi calling them for publicizing environmental impact assessment studies and hearing sessions.

The employee in the cabinet refused to receive the demands from Habi’s lawyer claiming that the cabinet is not the competent body for such demands?! Then Habi sent the demands in a registered letter to the cabinet, while the Ministry of Environment and Environmental Affairs Agency received the demands. Habi prepares these demands in the context of its campaign entitled “#اوقفوا_انتهاكات_شركات_الاسمنت”.

The campaign targets cement companies that violate citizens’ right to health, information and participation. These demands are signed by 12 human rights and environmental organizations.
