Habi Center for Environmental Rights inaugurates campaign against environmental violations committed by cement companies. In addition, “Habi” launches Hash tag for the campaign on Facebook and Twitter #اوقفوا_انتهاكات_شركات_الاسمنت. This campaign comes in the context of Habi’s program of confronting hazardous industries.

The essential goal of the campaign is urging cement companies to commit to transparency rules and publicize listening sessions and environmental impact assessment studies according to what is stated by environment law, international human rights conventions and UNPG in regard to business and human rights.

Moreover, Habi sent demand to Lafarge and demand Suez Cement. Nine Egyptian NGOs were in solidarity with these demands. Habi has pursued minutes against some of these companies by the Environmental Affairs Agency in courts because these companies did not conduct environmental impact assessment studies for shifting from gas to coal, in addition to mismanagement of hazardous refuses and pollutants emissions from their chimneys. Many criminal sentences and orders have been issued against these companies. Habi also issued a statement illustrating its attitude towards these violations.
