In the context of Habi’s campaign ” Stop Violations of Cement Companies”, Habi sent group of demands to Suez Group for Cement and Lafarge Cement that have been signed by some Egyptian NGOs. These demands call cement companies for committing to local legislations, international conventions and transparency in regard to their business. Some international NGOs are in solidarity with these demands among which is Business and Human Rights Resource Centre that resent the demands to the two mentioned companies. The surprise was that Suez Group pays attention to respond to Business and Human Rights Resource Centre to forebear its business and cover its environmental violations against citizens’ rights; while it did not pay any attention to the Egyptian organizations. The same is for Lafarge. This situation of Suez Cement reveals how it disparages the Egyptians’ right to knowledge and obscures its environmental violations, in addition to disregard the demands sent to them which are legal and legislated rights for citizens.
